My new normal, first-thing-in-the-morning is, what I call ‘Keto Koffee’ (Keto Coffee). What’s that?

Perhaps you have heard this called, ‘Bulletproof Coffee, as I first did. Well, it is a brand name and some marketing along with what I have come to realize is just expensive and unnecessary. Why because, you can make it yourself cheaper and just as good! Well, what is Bulletproof Coffee and what I call Keto Koffee’? What is Bulletproof Coffee? It is a Trademark (™) brand.

It all starts with their own single source organic coffee beans. What follows is their recipe, in quotes.

“Brew 1 cup (8-12 ounces) of coffee using filtered water with 2 ½ heaping tablespoons of freshly ground Bulletproof Coffee Beans. Use a French Press for ease of use and to preserve beneficial coffee oils that paper filters keep out. Add 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons of Brain Octane Oil. You’ll learn much more about Brain Octane Oil below, but keep in mind that this stuff is powerful. Start with 1 teaspoon per cup and work your way up to 1-2 tablespoons over several days. Add 1-2 tablespoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter or grass-fed ghee.” [Ghee is similar to clarified butter only it is cooked longer and the milk fat has been mostly removed, leaving an amber color and a more nutty flavor] “You read that right. It says butter. Don’t worry. This mixture also makes the creamiest, most delicious cup of coffee you’ve ever had. Oh, and make sure your butter is unsalted. Salty coffee is gross. Mix it all in a blender for 20-30 seconds until it looks like a foamy latte.”

OK, what is “Brain Octane Oil”? Again, it’s Bulletproof Coffee’s name for nothing more than, organic, extra virgin; unrefined coconut oil.

OK, a trademark name for the stuff and products they market and perhaps hype of its exclusive and so-called, proprietary brand of ‘stuff,’ stuff you can get yourself and make yourself, cheaper and as good as, if not better!!

What I call Keto Koffee’ is, the best stuff that you can find.

I use single source organic coffee beans that I grind fresh each morning. You can buy it pretty inexpensively from Aldis and maybe even your local coffee roaster—  micro brewed small batch coffee that is roasted, not burnt, baked or over roasted, but rightly roasted or just right.

Water, sure, use the purest you can find.

I use a Bunn® drip coffee maker with their special paper coffee filters. Use whatever method you like.

I put a big pat of organic, grass-fed, unsalted butter, melted or at room temperature, into my cup. Use the best you can find.

I use about a heaping teaspoon of organic, extra virgin, unrefined coconut oil, and also put it into my cup.

These two oils (fats), can either be first melted and stirred with the hot coffee poured over or since I like my coffee hot, I melt these oils (fats), before I add the coffee. You can whisk or blend this all together, but I’m fine with just stirring this with a spoon.

I have also added on occasion, some organic half and half. I have also added a couple of drops of organic liquid Stevia for sweetness (plain and vanilla). Stevia is a sugar substitute that comes from a plant and does not raise blood sugar and has no calories.

I have instead of all the above, just melted a fat bomb and then poured my coffee over this and stirred it with a spoon. My home-made fat bomb is organic unsweetened cocoa, organic unsalted butter, and organic chunky almond butter.

Also, once in a while, I have replaced the coffee with matcha green tea powder, with melted organic unsalted butter (or Ghee), organic, extra virgin; unrefined coconut oil and a few drops of liquid Stevia (vanilla and butterscotch), for a change. Our taste buds get bored sometimes, so it is nice to have variety. The Stevia helps to break up the bitterness of matcha green tea powder, but I like matcha as is and it is good, for most everyone, sweetened or not.

But for the most part, daily and first thing in the morning (between 5 and 6 am), I have one large cup of coffee, with just butter and coconut oil, nothing else. This leads to the question WHY?

There are two and only two ways the body makes energy. Energy is produced from converting high carbohydrates and/or sugars into glucose or from fat. And by the way, our brains are mostly 60% fat! In the liver, fats are converted into ketones to produce energy. The whole weight control is real simple. You either take in fewer calories than are needed or you burn up excess fat that is stored. Part of a ketogenic process is to extend the body’s natural state of fasting, from the last meal of the day until the next meal. For most people this is breakfast, which is to break the fast. My Keto Koffee’ allows me to have the energy needed and extend my fast until, my first meal of the day, which is lunch and this is normally at noon. Sometimes I will have 2 cups of Keto Koffee’ in the morning, but they are right after each other, first thing in the morning. Then I am good until lunch, with no jitters from too much caffeine and no hunger pangs until lunch. So, I am only eating twice a day. It works for me and I am slowly losing the excess fat I’ve been storing for years. My fat cells subcutaneously (inside), and my visceral fat in myself and most men, is noticeably seen, around the stomach area.

For me, it begins with Keto Koffee’. I do not know who came up with this idea, but in 1968, a man wrote a book about a specific group of people called, the Hunza. I first heard about them in the early 70’s, but not having read this book then or at anytime since. The book is now out of print, but I have read that used copies may be available for around $70-$100 dollars! WOW, what makes this book or specifically, the Hunza so important; so unique, to justify such a price, for a used book???

Note: Click on any picture below, for a larger view.

Cheerful, healthy and full of life, it seems as if the people of Hunza Valley belong to another planet. They eat fresh food, breathe the mountainous air of the Himalayas , look youthful and they hardly ever get sick. No cancers or malignant tumors. Not even benign tumors! Believe it or not, they have been reported to have lived anywhere from 145 – 150 years of age! And many are still having children at common ages from 60-80 years of age! Even after a strenuous day of work, they still love leisurely walks and those walks in the mountains, are often at high elevations and steep and rugged inclines.

They are thought to be some of if not THE happiest people on earth! There is a Hunza lodge (Hilltop Hotel), where outsiders can come and stay and visit them and see for themselves, this extraordinary people! Estimates are, there are, around 30,000 Hunza people. Looking at the picture of the three little girls, they appear to have the characteristics of Greeks and ancient native Pakistanis. In fact, it is believed, once wounded Greek soldiers recovered; their health was restored and expanded! Many stayed and married and evolved to become the Hunza. Interestingly, they seem to be acquainted with and follow the ancient rules of life, by the father of medicine, Hippocrates.

The Hunza live among the Himalaya Mts.

The Hunza progressed from our “hunter-gather ancestors, to a more farming community. But their health and practices and long full and happy lifestyles, can be tracked, traced and emulated greatly to the benefit of all people! Surely, they are doing many things correct and have great practices for maintaining excellent health, vigor and youth, peace and happiness!

I am including the Hunza in this post about Keto Koffee’ because, they share a couple of things with a Ketogenic lifestyle, eating to live and that food is medicine.

Hunza Valley Pakistan

For one thing, they only eat twice a day. So in a sense, they are extending their fast after their last and final meal of the day (dinner or supper), until they break their fast (after breakfast), at their first meal of the day, which is noon or lunchtime.

A community of around 30,000

But what or how do they begin each new morning? Believe it or not again, what do the Hunza do, first thing in the morning, when the first rays of sunlight appear around 5 or 6 AM? Yes, like most farmers, they are up with the first rays of dawn and go to bed when the daylight is done. 🙂

But what to they do first thing? Well, they have a cup of tea with a big chunk of their own locally sourced (made), grass-fed butter (salted) and it could even come from goats, cows, oxen or sheep. This buttery, fat oily caffeinated beverage gives them all the energy they need until lunch!!!

Come visit and stay at the ‘Hilltop Hotel’!! 🙂

Now I may not live to be 145-150 years of age, but I just might live longer, eating only twice a day, going from feast to famine, deep breathing, having good physical work to do, be healthier and happier and longer, starting out my day with, Keto Koffee’!!! 🙂

Keto Koffee’ – coffee or tea for a healthier me! 🙂

Have a wonderful Day. Next time, maybe I’ll give account of my soon to be drawn blood sample, to check my blood and inner goings on and my five-week followup with my health care – my wellness professional?! Who goes to the office of a medical practitioner (you know, they are mostly just practicing), when they are well??? 🙂

Who goes well (and it’s not even an annual physical)? Me!!! And I am looking forward to it!!!! 🙂

Yah’ gotta’ start somewhere! 🙂

Til’ next time,

Dahni
